Flixbus today from Trieste to Venice Marco Polo  Airport.

Went by boat to the 19th century castle Miramar. It was built for Maximilian of Austri and his wife Carlotta of Belgium. Maximilian was offered the post of Mexican Emperor. A French army supported him against Mexican rebels led by Benito Juarez. However, the Americans invoked the Monroe doctrine - Europeans should not intervene in the affairs of any American country - and the French had to withdraw. Maximilian was soon taken prisoner. Carlotta tried to save him but the powers refused to do so. He was shot: an event recorded in a famous painting by Edouard Manet, Carlotta Went mad. Miramar is not a museum.
